Mariners are advised that as part of ongoing port expansion works, dredging operations are currently underway in the main approach channel to Port Moresby. Consequently, several navigational aids have been altered to accommodate heavy dredging equipment and support vessels safely.
These temporary changes will remain in effect until operations are formally completed, which is estimated
to be late November. Mariners must refer to the latest charts and broadcast notices for daily updates.
Affected Areas
The following specific alterations to the lateral marks have been made in the primary channel:
Buoy S1 (Starboard): Repositioned 50 meters East of its charted position.
Buoy S3 (Starboard): Temporarily removed from the channel entirely to allow dredge turning.
Buoy S5 (Starboard): Repositioned 30 meters East.
Instructions Required
All vessels approaching or departing Port Moresby must navigate with extreme caution and maintain a minimum safe distance of 100 meters from all dredging vessels and associated equipment.
Vessels must contact Port Control on VHF Channel 12 prior to entering the approach channel to confirm traffic clearance and receive the latest safe passage instructions.
