Increased Risk of Small Craft Incidents in Coastal Waters

Recent reports indicate a rise in small craft incidents in the Gulf of Papua and along the Morobe coastline.

Hazards Identified:

  • Overloading of passenger vessels
  • Lack of lifejackets and safety equipment
  • Night navigation without proper lighting

Safety Recommendations:

  • Ensure adequate life-saving appliances onboard for all passengers
  • Avoid sailing in poor visibility or rough sea conditions
  • Conduct regular engine and hull inspections
  • Report unsafe vessels to local maritime authorities
